Avoid the Tragedy of Unbelief

Tim Hawkins’ Atheist songs are hilarious but it begs the question: am I putting my whole faith in God but still living as if everything was up to me? That’s a form of Christian Atheism.

Matthew 13:58

'And He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief.' (HCSB)

This is one of the saddest verses in the Bible. It is the account of Jesus going to His hometown to teach. When people heard Him, they were astonished. However, their astonishment did not lead them to respond to His teaching in obedience and faith. Their lives could have been radically changed for the better. Their community could have been radically changed. However, no positive changes occurred in the people or the town of Nazareth. Why? The Scripture gives the reason, “Because of their unbelief.”

Unbelief shuts the door on the transformational power of Jesus. Faith opens the floodgates to that same transformational power. In contrast to this passage of Scripture are countless others where Jesus worked miracles in response to the faith present in the lives of people.

 

Matthew 9:22

Jesus turned and saw her. 'Take heart, daughter,' he said, 'your faith has healed you.' And the woman was healed at that moment.

Matthew 15:28

Then Jesus said to her, 'Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.' And her daughter was healed at that moment.

Mark 10:52

'Go,' said Jesus, 'your faith has healed you.' Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.

When Jesus looks at your life what does He find? An attitude of faith? or unbelief? Do you believe Jesus can do a work of change in your life? In your family? In Your community? In your Nation? Do you believe He will? Do you believe that to the extent you are praying for Jesus to bring about this change or miracle?

If your unbelief is a roadblock to Jesus working in your life, confess the sin of unbelief. Ask God to strengthen your faith in Him.

Pray Today:

  • Pray that God would strengthen your faith as you come to Him over the next 40 days. That He would be glorified through your faith in Him. That Your Prayer Life over the next 40 Days would reveal your deep belief that God is real and is at work around you.

  • John 12:32 says what “when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” Pray today for someone you might not have ever prayed for to place their faith in Christ, you just never know what God could do.

  • Pray that over the next 40 Days God would do amazing things through prayer through our church family.  John 14:12-14 “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. 13 You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. 14 Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!”
